To design means to synthesize all the meanings, the messages, the signals and the reasons why an object exists and is being presented to people in a single design work. Does it sound as not an easy job to be done? It is not actually. That is why we have many graphic designers, but only a few iconic designers so far.

The design is a function, it leads to function. This is what Steve Jobs meant by this saying. He advises designers to think of the function their work will have and how it will be incorporated into peoples’ everyday lives. Jobs was saying that design is not just about the designer, the creator of the design work, but also for the receiver, the people who will see, use, touch, think about or analyze a design work whether it be a single poster, an architectural artwork, a device, etc.

The greatest designers of all times stress almost the same thing all the time: Design is about people, not about the creator of it. Design can maybe consider a form of contemporary art if it is expressed well, but the design is not an art if we refer to the concept we have about art. To create a design work is to communicate directly with the receiver. In advertising, design is the bridge between the item and the buyer, it is the channel through which the message is communicated by. The design is a medium for people to communicate with products. The more responsive a design work is, the better the message is sent to the target.
